Beauty is skin deep- well, it literally is! Whatever products we dab, slather, rub in or spray on our skin are absorbed within and go skin deep. While some allergies may show on the skin and are easily avoidable by a patch test, the harmful effects on chemicals ingested through the skin often do not show up so readily. Well, I am not really a tree hugger, and I understand that these products are laboratory tested and given the thumbs up by government agencies. Still, why go for something synthetic when you have natural skincare options readily available?
Going natural is a great idea, but it is a journey that starts with baby steps. I have begun mine and shall be sharing my experiences with you. The idea here is not just about natural skincare but also about developing a healthy lifestyle to be beautiful inside out. Here are some quick pointers to get your natural beauty care regimen going:
Start reading the ingredients
We check on the carbs & calories on packaged products that we eat. Now it is time to check for chemicals that we consume through our skin. Believe me, you will be horrified! I will share more about chemicals in beauty products in the coming days.
Do not buy anything that you would not eat
Whoa! I am not telling you to get all your beauty products. No, the concept is that the main ingredient in the product should be something edible & nourishing. Think of the lip balm that you eat up all the time!
Do some DIY for your own green, natural beauty products
It is time to search the kitchen cabinets & pick some healthy ingredients to nourish the skin. My granny used those and, her skin aged so elegantly. Believe me, we cannot reverse the ageing process. We can just slow it down and make it graceful. Be sure to do a patch test with DIY products too, as we may be allergic to some natural products.
Experiment and don't give up
A lot of DIY and mix & match of ingredients gives us the right formula for natural skincare. It was a pain for me to get the right blend of lemon & honey for my dark spots. But finally, after some trial & errors, I got my perfect combo! You shall get it too! Just don’t give up.
Drink lots of water. It not only hydrates but also helps in detoxification. Eat fruits & veggies to give your skin a healthy glow, and just have fun with your all-new natural beauty care routine. Believe me, stress is as bad as harmful chemicals. A happy heart makes the skin glow!
